Visa Information

Entry into Thailand requires a passport valid for at least six months from the time of entry. If you anticipate your passport expiring while you are in Thailand, you should obtain a new one before arrival or inquire with your government as to whether your embassy in Thailand can issue a new one after arrival.
Visas
Whichever type of visa you have be sure to check your passport immediately after stamping.
Immigrant Visa
(1) Nationals from 57 countries can now stay in Thailand for up to 30 days without an entry visa. For visitors from 15 countries, transit visa valid for 15 days maybe obtained at the cost of 300 baht on arrival at any of the 12 designated immigration checkpoints including the four airports at Don Muang (Bangkok), Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai.
(2) Categories of visas in Thailand are: Transit, Visitor Transit, Tourist, Non-Immigrant, Immigrant and Non-Quota Immigrant.
(3) Holders of Transit, Visitor Transit and tourist visas are not allowed to work in Thailand.
Visa Extensions & Renewals
Sixty day Tourist Visas maybe extended by up to 30 days at the discretion of Thai Immigration authorities. Chiangmai office is on Mahidol Road on the way to Chiang Mai International Airport or call 053 277510, but you can apply at any immigration office in the country. Fee 1900 baht.
The 30-day, no-visa stay can be extended for 10 days for 1900 baht. You can also leave the country and return immediately to obtain another 30 day stay. There is no limit on the number of times you can do this, nor is there a minimum interval you must spend outside the country.
Extension of the 15-day, on-arrival Transit Visa is only allowed if you hold a passport from a country that has no Thai embassy.
If you overstay your visa, the usual penalty is a fine of 500 baht for each extra day; fine can be paid at the airport.
One Year Visa Extension:
Getting a long stay Thailand visa
When an alien applies for a non-immigrant visa "code B”, to stay in the country 90 days or less, and would like to apply for an extension or an alien applies for a non-immigrant visa "code B-A”, to stay over 90 days, he/she will need to submit the following:
1. Application Form T.M. 7 (for extension of an alien who enters the Kingdom for not more than 90 days).
2. A copy of the passport (main page, visa page, entry stamp page) or substitute document.
3. One 4 x 6 cm. color photo
4. 500 baht fee is required for an extension of 90 days or less.
5. A recommendation letter from the company showing the positions of the applicant as well as the position of all foreigners working in the company and for what reasons these aliens must be employed.
6. Work permit or the receipt showing the alien has applied for such a permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social welfare.
7. The alien’s personal tax details including: balance, profit and loss, entity income tax, Vat records for the past year.
8. Certificate of entity registration, company registration certificate of limited company or commercial registration or VAT registration and list of partnerships.
9. Export companies must submit document of export transactions, i.e. bank or company transactions.
10. The officials reserve the right to require more documentation for further investigation to verify the company’s viability.
Procedures for lost passport:
A foreigner whose passport was either lost or stolen after entering Thailand must do the following:
1. A report must be filed at the local police station in the area the passport was lost or stolen.
2. Bring the police report to your embassy or consulate and get a new passport or substitute document. If there is no embassy Thailand, please contact the Passport Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok
3. Bring your new passport or substitute document to the Immigration Bureau as following:
- Passport or substitute document
- The report from the police station
- A document from the Embassy or consulate certifying the passport (if any).
Always carry a photocopy of your passport
Always carry a photocopy of your passport with you at all times. The Immigration can fine you for not having your passport, but a copy is better than nothing. A good (color) copy in your wallet or bag should be enough:
-Title page (the page with your photo and personal data)
-Visa page
-Latest entry stamp
-Immigration TM card
