Thailand is open country
so you will encounter all kinds of people with different
(unusual) genders and sexual preferences. Asian
lesbians, ladyboys, katoeys, gays, toms, t-birds,
dees, transvestites, odd-couples, etc. |

Thailand is country that mix up with many genders
of people but they are open minded to accept that is nature so when
you are in Thailand will not be surprise to see lady boy dress up
like a girl and Thailand arrange for Lady Boy contest as well. All
genders are open to the world to know that they are lady boy, Gay,
Tom or Dee. List below will explain the meaning of each gender.
Sexual preferences are also openly displayed.
If a couple are Tom and Dee, they are simply announcing to the world
unabashedly that they are having lesbian sex encounters. It
is also not uncommon to see farang guys walking down the street
happily holding the hands of young Thai boys, boldly displaying
that they are having gay sex encounters. Unlike the laws and
attitudes in their own countries, they find acceptance and peace
here.
Katoey (ladyboy or transvestite)
refers to a guy that acts, dresses and behaves like a woman or wants
to be a woman. Very often katoeys suffer from a painful identity
crisis of whether they are male or female having less developed
male genitals, some female anatomy and harbouring female feelings.
Some of them are so beautiful and genteel, it would be difficult
to distinguish at a glance that they are really male. There is a
saying in Thailand and the Philippines (where they are called bakla
and proliferate as much as in Thailand) that if a girl is too beautiful,
look carefully again as they could be transvestites. In Chiang
Mai, many of them make their appearance after sunset around the
Thapae Gate areas.
Gay refers to homosexuals; persons
sexually oriented toward members of their own gender. There are
two types of them; Gay King and Gay Queen.
The distinction is made here between a real male who just has preference
for gay sex in contrast to a katoey ladyboy who is a transvestite.
In Thailand, there are many boys teen gays particularly in Boyz
Town and around Soi Day & Night, Pattaya.
Tom or Tom Boy or T-bird
refers to girl that acts, dresses and behaves like a guy or wants
to be a guy and has or would like to have a girlfriend (Dee).
Dee refers to a real girl who loves Tom.
In Chiang Mai you can find places that specific for gay or only
women. If you want to visit gay’s place you will see a lot
around Santitham area or in magazines ads they always advertise
“Massage by men for men!” so easy to recognize the place.
If you are girl and traveller alone can visit Athena Club allow
only women to use their services. If you want to see stage show
by lady boy can visit Simon Cabaret Show. These just for sample
if you visit Chiangmai or any provinces in Thailand you will see
by yourself.
