Siamese Cat
When Westerners
think of Siamese cats, what comes to mind are the elegant, long-limbed chocolate, or lilac point Siamese cats with their blue eyes and creamy body coats.  As in Western culture, there was a wide gap between the taste of the Siamese royal court and that of the commoners and these sleek felines were palace animals, the darlings of Siam's elite as long as 500 years ago.  But the common cats kept by the villagers as pets and to keep down rats and mice in the house and rice granary are certainly no less Siamese than their better-known counterparts.

Thai villagers have a keen sense of omens and feel that certain things found in nature are auspicious or ill-favored and this classification extends to village Siamese cats as well. Village cats are classified according to their characteristic markings.  On this basis, some cats are thought to be auspicious animals and if well-cared for will bring their owners good fortune.  Others, such as pure black cats Westerners think of as ill-omened are thought to bring their owners bad fortune. Visit-Chiangmai.com provides information about auspicious and inauspicious cats

They are recognized for their striking color contrast, their fine aristocratic heads, amazing deep blue eyes of the almond shape, and the short silky coats. The cats' ears are long and pointed with open bases.  Siamese cats are very graceful, lithe, and athletic.  Their hind legs are higher than their front legs.  The paws are oval shaped.  The cat's tail is long and tapering. These cats are one of the most well known of the feline species in the world.

Siamese Cats - Temperament These cats are famous for their exceptional temperamental features. They are intelligent, people-oriented cats, friendly, and affectionate.  The cat's fairly balanced activity level makes it most suitable for apartment living.  One of the most distinctive features of the Siamese cat breed is their voice.  They can be very loud at times.  These cats are claimed to speak both with their voice and with their body.

Siamese Cats - Show Cats The cats of this breed are very popular show animals.  Since the cats' coat is short, it is relatively easy to prepare them for showing.  There are certain faults in the cat's appearance, which are normally penalized by the judges.  They are: incorrect coat color or pattern, incorrect points, eye casts, skull deformities, and some other faults in Siamese cats.
