Nightlife in Chiang Mai
Nightlife Chiang Mai, while not as raucous as
Pattaya nightlife or Bangkok nightlife, nevertheless
is charming & lively, offering discos, karaoke bars,
live music etc. There are quite a number of places where
Chiang Mai bars proliferate and cheap beer flows freely
mixed with a cocktail of raggae and rock & roll
music. Or you can sing along at one of the plentiful
karaoke bars in the company of sexy young Thai bar girls. |

Chiang Mai nightlifeChiang Mai nightlife is the most
lively in the North, although still a far cry from Pattaya or Bangkok.
Chiangmai is still popular for its nightlife and cheap entertainment
centres, as well as being a charming city with beautiful surrounding
countryside. Chiang Mai bars, pubs, discos, karaoke bars and live
music proliferate everywhere.
Chiang Mai girlsChiang Mai girls are often as
interested in meeting you as you might be in meeting them, but one
should exercise discretion and sometimes a bit of caution, especially
in matters of the heart. In romantic situations, Westerners
and Thais both occasionally get hurt. The best advice is to
think with both your head and your heart. Enjoy yourself, but be
very mature about any given situation.
The night scene in Chiang Mai constantly changes
as fickle revelers shift their preferences and popular bands come
and go. So if one place does not please, there is usually
another not too far away.
Thais like to go out with friends to pubs where
they can enjoy live music, food and drink. The pubs offer
full menus with Northern and Central Thai cuisine as well as Western
dishes; thus they serve as lively venues for dinner and the hot
spots are usually crowed. Food prices are in the middle of the range
of prices for restaurants.
Bar & Pubs
A section of Ratwithi and Moonmuang roads have become
a good area for pubs and bars where mainly foreigners meet, drink
and converse. Famous Chiang Mai pubs and bars include the
Irish Pub, Yoy Pocket, Rasta Café, John’s Place,
Bierstube, Spotlight etc. Before embarking on a romantic spree
in these places with Chiang Mai bar girls, it may be a good idea
to read Stephen Leather's novel, "Private Dancer" and
check out our news
about unfortunate incidents resulting from affairs of the heart
stemming from these places. Nevertheless, it is good fun and such
unfortunate incidences are not as many here compared to Pattaya
and Bangkok.
Popular Thai Pubs
Crowds of youths doing the boogie-woogie at their tables
to live music can make combining good food with conversation challenging
if you are sitting near the stage of a popular pub. Thais
generally like their music LOUD! Some Thai pubs have quieter corners
where you can enjoy the ambience of an evening out with friends
and hear what they have to say. Chiangmai is an excellent place
for pub crawling and bar hopping.
Night Clubs & Go-Go Joints
At Chiang Mai night clubs, female singers entertain a
generally older male clientele by singing while dressed in flamboyant
outfits, if not skimpy swimming costumes. Attracted like
insects to UV lighting, and despite the occasional painful tuning,
the men lavish garlands on their favourite singers, often attaching
banknotes to show their appreciation. When not singing, the women
join the men at the tables and encourage them to drink up, not
that this is really needed. There are a few Chiang Mai go-go joints
where balloons are popped by darts shot from female private anatomies
and the object of love and affection is a vertical stainless steel
pole.
Karaoke
Karaoke has largely taken over
as the most popular entertainment especially amongst Asians. Thais
love to drink and sing, with the result that small karaoke parlours
are found throughout the city. Hostess karaoke parlours,
which advertise themselves with female staff lunging around their
entrances or sitting outside cross-legged and dressed lightly,
may be less oriented towards family entertainment. For the price
of a lady's drink, a hostess (or several if you are willing to
pay) will sit with you for half and hour and help you hold the
microphone. They say that no holds are barred when big bills mount
up and the white bird sings. Several hostess karaoke bars are
located on Sridonchai Rd., Chiangmailand Rd., Changklan Rd., and
the Santitham area.
Night Bazaar Night Bazaar is a collection
of side-walk stalls and plazas crowded with stalls, shops and boutiques
selling everything from fake watches and handbags to reproduction
antiques. The large variety make this the best one-stop shopping
center in town. Enjoy a good haggle at the stalls, for bargaining
is the norm.
Gay & Lesbian Venues
Chiang Mai has several gay men’s bars and entertainments
such as Coffee Boy Bar, Circle Pub, Adam’s apple, House
of Male etc. Gays and lesbians should feel very much at home here
with the many gay friendly places.
Discos
All the flashy hotels have discos with hi-tech recorded
music such as Bubble, Hotshot, Horizon etc., and non-hotel discos
also very famous such as Discovery, Warm Up, Chalerm Buri, and Bang
Rak etc. These are often used as venues by young Chiang Mai girls
to meet foreign men in the hope of a passport to instant happiness
abroad.
Cabaret
For a wonderful evening, you can enjoy the fun at Simon
Chiang Mai Cabaret
where lavish sets and brilliant costumes amuse the audience. The
stage performers are Thailand's famous katoeys or Thai ladyboys
who's beauty is as dazzling as their costumes.
Thai Ancient Massage & Thai Massage (Farang Ancient
Massage)
Chiang Mai offers two major kinds of massage. The ancient
and the ancient. What the farang calls Thai Massage, Thais refer
to as Ancient Massage (Nuad Boran). What the farang refers to
as the ancient massage (oldest profession), Thais call Massage
(Nuad). So both are ancient, one even more ancient than the other.
To make matters worse, body massage also has two different connotations.
So mostly foreigners get very confused. ENJOY both the confusion
and the massage!
